Rio Grande National Forest campgrounds

The Rio Grande National Forest has some nice campgrounds. The Rio Grande National Forest is located in Antonito, Colorado. Since it is the forest, it is important to bring all of your camping gear with you since camping equipment stores aren’t readily available.

Aspen Glade campground
Located on Highway 17 about 17 miles west of the US-285 and Hwy 17.

Aspen Glade campground is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. There is fishing on site so make sure you bring your Coleman cooler to ice your catch! The campground features camping grills, picnic tables, fishing, and hiking. There are no showers so you will have to rough it out! Rates are about $15 a day with a maximum stay of 14 days.

Elk Creek campground
From Antonito, go 23 miles west on Highway 17 and then 1 mile on FR 128.

Elk Creek campground is situated near Elk Creek. The campground features hiking, fishing, a boat ramp, canoeing, and boating. There are 42 sites at the campground. If you are going to do some camping, make sure you bring your Garmin GPS so you don’t get lost!

Mogote campground
From Antonito, go 13 miles west on Highway 17.

Mogote campground features some good lake fishing and river fishing. There are 40 sites at the campground. The campground features fire rings, picnic tables, and grills.
